Friday Favorites - August 19, 2022

It's Friday! It has been really warm this week and we might get some rain this weekend! How has your week been going? I'm sharing some the things this week that brought a little joy to me. 

A Salon Appointment 

I try to go every 6 - 8 weeks and get a partial foil highlight and every other time, I get a cut too. The cut was long overdue. I use purple brightening shampoo once a week or so to keep away the brassy tones. 




A Clean Garden

My summer garden was done and the plants were dry and crispy. The drought and heat really made gardening difficult this year. I cleaned it all up and now I am ready for fall planting! I LOVE starting with a blank slate!




Podcasts

I have listened to The Lazy Genius, hosted by Kendra Adachi, for a several years now. I get so many hacks for how to better streamline my life, home, work life, social, etc. Her latest episode #275 What's Saving My Life Right Now has something for everyone. Kendra gives such great advice for optimizing your life to find time for what is important. It's worth the listen! 

Friends

We have used the same veterinarian for years and have become great friends with her. She's always willing to lend a helping hand! Yesterday, our new horse had a little accident and ripped his nose, so we texted her a picture immediately. She called and said meet me at the clinic, so about 8:00 last night she started fixing him up. He's all stitched up and back home; we may have to bubble wrap this guy! He was such a good boy throughout his whole treatment with the doctor.

  It's been a good 2 years since I've updated this blog! I enjoy reading everyone's Friday Favorites, but kinda lost my blogging mojo. It's time to jump back in. #1 Friends This week we had a fast trip up to Cordova, TN, to a mounted shooting competition. I'd reached out to Jenn earlier this week for recommendations for restaurants in the area and she invited me to coffee! What a fun visit! I absolutely loved visiting with her and she is the same in person as she is on her blog. She's so genuine and fun!  The shoot had 81 entries; we hung out with some old friends and met some new friends. My husband is in this photo with a fellow competitor he's known for over 20 years. Mounted shooting is such a small sport and we travel all over the country as competitions are far and few between. Friday Favorites - June 23, 2023

Here's some of my favorites from the week. #1 Whoop Band I have a couple of friends that wear a Whoop band which is pretty much a health / fitness tracker but with tons more data. I've been wearing my Whoop for about a month now and using it to improve my overall health. It's helping me see where the problems are, where improvement is needed and measures overall health. These bands are worn by a lot of pro-golfers and athletes and digging into the data can help you analyze patterns so when there's a change in your norms it gives you a heads up. Some of the pro athletes noticed their respiratory rate and heart rate variability was out of their norm several days before being tested positive for COVID. Since I'm a data nerd this band has really been a favorite lately. Hello Monday & Day in the Life - Weekend

Linking up with Hello Monday   and NJAM   for a two in one post. Recapping our weekend! Friday was Matt's birthday, so as soon as I got home for work, he opened his gift and then we met some friends for dinner at Gonzales Bistro. Talk about delicious! This is the third time we've been to this new restaurant and it never disappoints. Three of us had Alaskan halibut and one had salmon.  Saturday I spent more time working in the garden until it got super hot. We had a high of 92°F! I planted a few more pepper plants I picked up at HEB as well as some cucumber plants and seeds. I put up the trellis for the cucumbers and also decided to plant some luffa seeds and pole beans. Growing luffa and pole beans are new for me, so we'll see how it goes.  Saturday afternoon, Matt's parents were at home, so we invited them over for birthday cake. The birthday guy requested tres leches cake and it did not disappoint! I had a local bakery make it and they did a fantastic job...
