Friday Favorites - July 11

Happy Friday Friends! I'm so looking forward to the weekend; I don't have a lot on the schedule, but I have some plans on my to do list. Looking forward to some walks outside in the sunshine, tackling a few projects and relaxing.

#1 Baking

My friend Stephanie and I baked kolaches. She's a pro at it and helped me; we split these up for the July 4th weekend. Red (raspberry), White (cream cheese) and Blue (poppy seed). They were all so good and disappeared quickly this week. These were so easy! Just Rhodes dinner roll dough and Solo pastry filling. We did make the topping and cream cheese filling from scratch

#2 Health

Getting back on the health and wellness track. I had a skin check at the dermatologist which I haven't done in 10+ years. I went to a new clinic and it was a little bit of a drive (about 90 miles), but I really liked the staff. All good news! Yay!

I also did my Caroline Girvan Iron program workouts twice this week, cold plunged twice and used the sauna once. My goal is to get more consistent with this whole category because I feel so much better and sleep so much better doing these things. Definitely a favorite when something leaves you feeling better!

Inspiration!

#3 Garden

Well it wouldn't be a blog post without some mention of the garden. Picked loads of our green chilies and jalapenos and roasted them. We just roast them in over a propane fire in our roaster then vacuum seal and freeze them. They're great to use chopped up on burgers, in salsa in the winter, thrown in beans, etc. It's rained almost every day this week, so there hasn't been much other gardening happenings.

#4 Taco Trucks

Gosh I love a good taco truck! We have a permanent one it seems in town now and I tried their beef quesadilla. So, so good and I love supporting a small business!

I love the fresh limes and cucumber they include!

I hope y'all have a fabulous weekend!

This week I'm linking up with Erika & Andrea for Friday Favorites!

Comments

  1. Those kolaches look so good! I had never heard of them before so my son ( a college culinary/baking student) and I feel down a Google rabbit hole reading all about them. I have yet to find any sort of handmade pastry/ sweet bread that I don't like! I like all of Caroline's workouts; even if can't ever seem to lift nearly as much weight as she does.

  2. Good job with the baking, what yummy treats!
That is good news about the skin check and it sounds like your garden is doing well. We need some rain here, there hasn't been enough over the last few months.

Friday Favorites - June 27, 2025

It's been a good 2 years since I've updated this blog! I enjoy reading everyone's Friday Favorites, but kinda lost my blogging mojo. It's time to jump back in. #1 Friends This week we had a fast trip up to Cordova, TN, to a mounted shooting competition. I'd reached out to Jenn earlier this week for recommendations for restaurants in the area and she invited me to coffee! What a fun visit! I absolutely loved visiting with her and she is the same in person as she is on her blog. She's so genuine and fun!  The shoot had 81 entries; we hung out with some old friends and met some new friends. My husband is in this photo with a fellow competitor he's known for over 20 years. Mounted shooting is such a small sport and we travel all over the country as competitions are far and few between. I would say we probably know or met someone from every single state and a few countries along the way.  Last night, our friends came over with their kids. We had fajitas, rice a...

Friday Favorites - June 23, 2023

Here's some of my favorites from the week. #1 Whoop Band I have a couple of friends that wear a Whoop band which is pretty much a health / fitness tracker but with tons more data. I've been wearing my Whoop for about a month now and using it to improve my overall health. It's helping me see where the problems are, where improvement is needed and measures overall health. These bands are worn by a lot of pro-golfers and athletes and digging into the data can help you analyze patterns so when there's a change in your norms it gives you a heads up. Some of the pro athletes noticed their respiratory rate and heart rate variability was out of their norm several days before being tested positive for COVID. Since I'm a data nerd this band has really been a favorite lately. Here's a screen shot of one day of mine; clearing improvement is needed! #2 Margaritas If you're local to the Victoria, TX, area, you have to try the margaritas at Hacienda Restaurant in front of ...
